About WINGS

DeSoto ISD established the Where I Now Gain Success (WINGS) dropout prevention and recovery program which has assisted more than 300 students to graduate from high school. The credit recovery and dropout recovery program started in school year 2010–11 with a $100,000 three-year dropout recovery grant from Texas Education Agency. The district continued the program after the grant ended because of its' highly effectiveness. The WINGS program offers courses for student’s ages 17 to 25.  The instructional program has an individual student focus and uses small group tutoring. Since the program was established, approximately 80 percent of the students enrolled completed the program and earned their high school diploma. The number of graduates more than quadrupled from 21 during the first year of the program to 108 in school year 2013–2014. The WINGS program has graduated 310 students, not to include this year’s graduates.

The goal of the WINGS program, is to provide students the opportunity to earn credits and skills needed for a high school diploma. DeSoto WINGS uses
the computer based program Edgenuity.  Edgenuity provides engaging online education and blended learning solutions that propel success for students in an on-line format.

DeSoto WINGS follows the DeSoto ISD calendar. There is no charge for this program.
